I started putting together my favorite tracks from 2008. The list ended up being a two disc best of. Beat Control(disc one) has more of the indie/hipster/rock tracks from the year. Death Guild B-Sides(disc two) contains my favorite tracks that got played or should be played at Death Guild in 2008.
There is something I've discovered since my last post. That something is the sound of heartbreak. I have been on the mend from that hence the lack of posts.
Onto better topics...I was watching some Buffy today and got inspired by Dru. Then inspiration struck and two songs floated into my grey matter. So on with the Drusilla theme we go.
First is Bells for Her by Tori Amos. It's very fitting for Dru before she became a vampire. When she was being driven insane by Angel.
This is my new jam! The band is Lowe, I just came across them today. I am really excited to hear their new album "Kino International" at the end of this month! If you enjoy Mesh and De/vision then you'll love these guys.
It all started with this painting I did a few months ago. I'm always sketching cartooning people, so I tried to paint one of them. Not sure how I feel about the final product. The image worked it's way into my head and came out as a playlist. Enjoy

I held off posting about Sohodolls, I wanted to post close to their show at Popscene. Seeing as how they've canceled their show AGAIN I'm just going to post it anyway. I was sooooo looking forward to seeing them too. Grrrrr!
It's been two years since we met. I still think about that night in the park talking for hours. Enjoying your crazy laugh and passion for music. What better way to express my adoration for you than with a song. It's full of spring, silly, and most importantly hugs and puppies. Happy anniversary Mister Mock The Only One-The Cure
Gossip will be doing a tribute night for Adam and the Ants. I will once again be joining Death Guild's Melting Girl and Shark Attack's Starr on the decks. A night with the three of us in the booth is all win. Don't miss us rocking the socks off of the front room.
I will be celebrating my birthday at New Wave City this year. So come join me up in the lounge where I'll be DJing with my gals Starr and Melting Girl!! I'm really excited about the Cure tribute, I've been digging through all of the albums and singles. I've uploaded my fav five of the moment. Enjoy and I hope to see all of you out on May 3rd!
Do I really need to tell you about Depeche Mode? I didn't think so. Come out this Saturday for a night of dancing to all your favorite Depeche Mode jams!!
"In late 2004, the future members of Blacklist were disenchanted. Living in the supposed capital of bohemian pleasure, they watched in disgust as independent music became an orgy of similarity, lawmakers banned smoking in bars, and the Republican National Convention came triumphantly to midtown. Fashion set the rules for the art world and philosophy had become little more than a cynical slacker's hobby. It was in this atmosphere that Blacklist was born.
Inspired by groups such as The Comsat Angels, The Manic Street Preachers, Suede, The Sound, and For Against, Blacklist is simultaneously celebratory and melancholy, replacing the hysterical protest song of the 20th century with anthems for a new generation weaned on amusement and starved for confrontation. In today's world of faith-based violence and volatile identity politics, they create the soundtrack to an explosive resistance. The snide refusal of nihilism makes a loud and heavy romantic sound."-Blacklist website
I cannot wait to see Iris play again! I saw them when they played the back room at the Cat Club. At the time they only had one album out. At the end of the show we wanted them to just play all the songs again. The show was that great! Now with three albums out I can't imagine how awesome this show is going to be!!
I'm only posting three tracks this time. My favorite song from off of each album.
Last week the weather was perfect. I left the house in shorts and just wanted to fly a kite in the park or go on a road trip with friends. I searched through my ipod creating an on-the-go playlist that fit my mood that day. It is one of my best compilations I think. Enjoy!

After years in the "goth" scene there comes a time when great songs become blah songs. Mainly due to being played to death. Siouxsie and the Banshee's Cities In Dust was one of these casualties. On Junkie XL's latest release he was able to breathe new life into the song. Sadly, it more than likely won't get played at Death Guild it's a little outside the box for some of the crowd. Perhaps the lovely DJ Starr might give it a go for the Bondage a Go Go crowd.
Here's a video someone made using the song Reload featuring Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode fame. The video makes T3 seem like a movie I'd actually enjoy, unlike the piece of scrap metal it was.
This Monday I'll be hitting up this show before heading over to Death Guild. I'm looking forward to seeing Duke Spirit and hearing more from the Ting Tings. The Duke Spirit The Step & The Walk
"Halou’s debut album, ‘We Only Love You’, was released in 1999 on Bedazzled Records. Featuring Rebecca’s stunningly honest and vibrant vocals, the album wove its way through abstract beats and sumptuously languid electronic pop music. ‘We Only Love You’ received overwhelming praise, and was championed by influential independent radio stations such as Seattle’s KEXP and LA’s KCRW while earning endearing reviews by noteworthy US press.
Halou continued to craft and hone their unique sound for their second release, ‘Wiser’, released on Nettwerk Records in October 2001. The album further defined the band’s talent and penchant for breadth and surprise in their sound –crushing and delicate, electronic and organic, intense and soothing. The addition of strings, incisive drums, and a host of additional live instruments further explored Halou’s masterful juxtaposition of the sensual and the technical. ‘Wiser’ was entirely produced by Halou. On this release, Count established himself as an integral component of Halou, not only as studio engineer and mixer, but also as a drummer. His production skills have been finely tuned through his work with the above mentioned artists as well as RUN DMC, New Order, No Doubt, and many more.
Halou’s ‘Wholeness and Separation’, fully realized the delicate balance of organic and electronic that Ryan, Rebecca and Count have coaxed from their minds and hearts. Luxurious strings, atmospheric textures, inventive electronics, and heartfelt vocals stretch this sonic collage across the spectrum of human emotion.
Don’t miss their compelling, completely live performance which features live drums, cello, bass, guitar, various electronics, Rebecca’s mesmerizing vocals, all set to the backdrop of short films fully synchronized to the performance. For current tour dates and other news, check www.halou.com."-press release
Halou will be playing Cafe Du Nord three times this April! The dates are the 9th, 16th, and the 23rd. I plan on seeing at least one of these dates.
I am so excited to finally see De/vision in concert!!! The fact that I get to DJ at the show as well kicks ass! This post is for the people who don't know the absolute WIN of De/vision. So sample a few track and make sure to come out tomorrow and see them live!!!!
On the 15th SOMETHING takes over the front room of Shark Attack! It's sure to be one hell of a party! Make sure to get some rest after De/vision so you can dance all night with me at SOMETHING!!!!
I'm so excited to see this band play on Thursday at Slim's! It is a shame that they aren't in town to put on an open to the public concert. I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Your Mac Life Rocks Expo Party through Nettwerk. The main band for the evening is the Silicon Valley Houserockers, I won't be staying around for them.
Here's a track from their new CD. I enjoy it even though it sounds like two other tracks in certain parts. I Feel Love by Donna Summers and Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush. Information Society-Synthesizer
